It's that time again, where the county has sent out its "Permanent Vote by Mail" flyers. We had several complaints during primary from people who had moved, receiving 5-6 flyers to their homes. Or deceased family members who receive "Vote by Mail" flyers from DuPage County. If this happens at your address, you can contact the members of your municipality's local committee to inform them that "this person (name and address) no longer lives here." They will gladly help clean up the voter lists for you. Either you can go to the county clerk yourself to provide proof that someone has passed away, or you are the owner of the property in question with all the vote-by-mail flyers still going to your address.

As some people have lost hope in counting their votes, please consider a few steps to move forward. Number one, do not sign this form as a "Permanent Mail Ballot", do not sign this form at all to return. Number two, you have gladly been given a website to request a ballot by applying online. www.DuPageCounty.gov/Election/VoteByMail. This is your best option if you prefer to have a ballot in hand. They've also given many people new polling locations, but in DuPage County you can vote anywhere in DuPage.

When you have a ballot in hand, you can physically bring your ballot on Election Day on  November 8 to vote. Now you wonder why and how? When you request your ballot, no one can vote for you beforehand. If you still want to vote early, it is recommended that you only use  county mailboxes or  contact your local Committee member to turn in your ballot. You can even entrust a family member to drop you off in the county for you in their mailboxes.

If you decide to withhold your ballot until Election Day on November 8th , you must first send it to the election judge. Be a physical witness to how they write "Surrendered" on the ballot. If they don't write "Surrendered" on their ballot, it could be voted on twice later and none of the votes will count. After you turn in your ballot, request a new ballot. They are required by law to give you one.

Anyone can do this before the election if they want or do not want to vote by mail to protect their ballots. Just do not lose your ballot. Please do not sign with your signature or opt for "Permanent Vote by Mail". This will also help others in the future, if you move or heaven forbids something to happen to you. Let's make this the most promising year of electoral integrity yet. Our votes and our voices matter!

Every workplace by law must give you a break to go vote in person on Election Day, November 8th, in Illinois.  It's paid time off, but you must notify your workplace in writing at least one day in advance before the election. In Illinois you are allowed 2 hours of paid time off to vote. Be sure to give yourself enough time, as many people will also try to go during lunch. Some states require you to provide proof, such as a voter receipt or voting label, but Illinois does not require proof. Please be sure to vote.  Don't forget to tell 5 friends to make sure they vote on Election Day. Turn it into a phone etiquette game and check to make sure people voted. Every vote counts this year. This is the year we cleanse our state!

If you become an election observer or election judge, contact the candidates you support to let them know, and they will be sure to place you in their local areas with credentials that approve you to view polling places. Please sign up at least to be a poll watcher if you don't have time to be there all day. We need to make sure there is no more harassment or illegal activity at polling places. You can see firsthand what we experienced in West Chicago on Primary Election Day last June, when the electoral judges of the League of Women Voters from Wheaton, shook their heads in disgust at filing a complaint and did nothing to stop illegal harassment of Democratic paid workers outside the facility. Even when they were notified of the illegal actions, they simply told the person to wait in their car until we left.  You can watch the video live on the candidate Facebook page  and  https://www.facebook.com/brownilsenator25/ in June. In West Chicago, democrats were sitting at the front door of the high school handing out flyers inside the 100' mark. If you see anything, let the election judges know they are inside. If they don't take formal action, contact your county clerk right away, as they will send someone to make sure the problem is fixed.
