Illinois for Governor candidate Darren Bailey reasserted his strong stand for motorcyclists at a forum in West Chicago.

Bailey accepted the invite of the DuKane ABATE Chapter for a debate on motorcyclists’ rights and an opportunity to be asked about his views on different issues concerning motorcyclists.

"I attended the DuKane (DuPage - Kane) ABATE Candidates forum in West Chicago," Bailey said in a statement. "As a motorcycle rider myself, I was glad to share my campaign points with the members in attendance. Governor Pritzker was invited as well, but he was a no show. My record as a Senator and a State Representative before that reflect my strong support for the rights of motorcyclists."

A Brotherhood Aimed Toward Education (ABATE), a motorcycle advocacy group, "ensures that the rights and freedoms enjoyed by motorcyclists/off-roaders/ATV riders in Illinois will not disappear." The organization "believes that freedom of choice is one we can’t lose and will work with state and local legislators to ensure that freedom is never lost for motorcyclists in the State of Illinois. ABATE will ensure that motorcycles are a primary mode of transportation in Illinois and see to it that motorcyclists are included in all aspects of transportation planning in the future.”

Bailey (R-Xenia) previously questioned Illinois law regarding the compulsory use of helmets for motorcyclists.

"I have no issue with anyone advocating for motorcycle safety, but I draw the line at attempts to impose helmet laws in Illinois. Wearing or not wearing a helmet is a personal choice that should be left up to the individual. Period,” Bailey said, according to Prairie State Wire.

ABATE for DuPage and Kane counties held election debates Aug. 22-23. The debates featured candidates for Illinois state representative, federal candidates, Illinois Secretary of State, Illinois state senator, Kane County Sheriff, DuPage County Board Chairman, and Illinois Governor, Daily Herald reported.

The gubernatorial candidate has always been proud to be an "ABATE member who actually rides."

Earlier this year, Bailey was endorsed by ABATE Illinois.
