The DuPage County State's Attorney's Office announced that bond has been denied for a man accused of shooting at a woman in a road rage incident.

“It is alleged that as a result of road rage, Mr. Murray opened fire on two separate occasions on an innocent woman, first shooting three times at her after a minor accident and then shooting three additional times when he followed her and they were stopped at a red light,” DuPage County State's Attorney Bob Berlin said in a release. “This type of violent, unprovoked behavior will not be tolerated in DuPage County and will be aggressively prosecuted.”

The incident started around 2:30 a.m. Aug. 21, the release said. A woman was stopped at a red light in her vehicle at Lake Street and Ontarioville Road in Hanover Park. She alleged that when the light turned green, the man in the vehicle behind her, identified as 25-year-old Reco Murray, immediately began honking his horn and tailgating the victim’s vehicle.

The woman stated that she pulled over to let Murray pass, and her account is that Murray did pass, but rather stopped shortly after. After he pulled over, the woman said, she attempted to drive around him, but the two vehicles were involved in a minor crash. The woman said she got out of her vehicle to attempt to exchange information with Murray, but Murray began yelling at her, pulled out a handgun, and fired three shots.

The woman’s account said she returned to her vehicle and drove away, but Murray followed her and caught up with her at County Farm Road and Lake Street, at which time he fired three more shots toward her vehicle. The victim drove to the Hanover Park Police Department, where Murray was taken into custody. The victim was unharmed, but her vehicle sustained a shattered window and multiple bullet holes.

“I thank the Hanover Park Police Department for their work in the peaceful apprehension of the defendant in this case,” Berlin said. “I also thank Assistant State’s Attorneys Mike Fisher and Jennifer Nielsen for their work in securing charges against Mr. Murray.”

Hanover Park Police Chief Andrew Johnson also praised the response officers had.

“I would like to commend the officers of the Hanover Park Police Department for their highly professional response which resulted in Murray being taken into custody quickly and safely, putting an end to this violent encounter which could have easily resulted in the loss of life,” Johnson said in the release.

Murray is being charged with one count of Attempt Murder (Class X Felony) and one charge of Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm (Class 1 Felony). Judge Margaret O’Connell denied Murray bond during Monday’s hearing. He is next scheduled to appear in court for arraignment on Sept. 26.
