Officials from the village of Roselle vowed to stay on course in their effort to control contributions to their police and fire departments.

"We're moving in the right direction and doing the right things here," Heidi Andorfer, an actuary with Foster and Foster, said in a video posted on YouTube. "And, you know, we'll continue to work towards paying down that unfunded."

Data showed that the recommendation for the city's contribution to its police department has grown since last year’s number of $1.9 million. There was a modest increase of 1.6%, leaving the overall contributions under the $2 million threshold. This growth rate is fairly stable and was expected because of the payroll growth assumption, which is always predicted by the actuary.

As part of its research, Foster and Foster performed an experience study on the consolidated police and fire funds. The study concluded that some changes in the plan should be altered. Researchers contend that the study was performed to better show predictions and estimates for future years; the experiences are needed because the fund is too small to produce reliable numbers by itself without consolidation.

The recommended contribution for the fire department increased by 33% compared to last year, from $713,000 to $951,000. Authorities explained that this is at least partly due to the fact that the snapshot used to estimate the budget was taken on Jan. 1. It did not include an accurate amount of personnel that the fire department will have on its payroll for the majority of the year.
