Christian Staple, Head Coach for Men's Volleyball | Bendictine University Athletics Deparment

Below is an email from the President of Benedictine University, sent to the campus community yesterday afternoon.

I am deeply saddened to inform our community of the passing of our Head Coach for Men's Volleyball – Christian Staple.  Coach Staple passed away suddenly today.

Christian arrived at Benedictine University for the 2021 season.  In his first season as head coach, guided his team to the national championship finals.  At the conclusion of his first year, he was named NACC Coach of the Year and saw two of his players earn All-American status.

Coach Staple served as an assistant for both men's and women's programs at McKendree University prior to joining Benedictine University.  He was the recipient of the 2017 AVCA Diversity Award which recognizes coaches for leadership skills, professional development, and promoting inclusivity within the sport of volleyball.  Originally from the Chicagoland area, Staple served as a high performance coach for USA Volleyball and also coached at the NCAA Division III level at North Central College.

Coach Staple understood and exemplified the values of our community.  He will be remembered fondly for his commitment to the University, the Athletic Department and our student athletes.  We have lost a valued colleague, coach and friend.  While each of us grieve at the passing of one of our own, we also grieve for the loss his family and friends suffer.  Our hearts and prayers go out to his family during this difficult time.
