A troubling series of fights at Downers Grove South is being featured on an Instagram page.
The page, dgs.fights, currently has four fights posted on the platform, three of those purportedly taking place in the school’s bathrooms, with students surrounding the fighters and cheering them on.
"Stop calling me a whore!” one girl yells at another, before the girl she yelled at slaps her, pulls her hair, and throws her to the floor. Four individuals were filmed to have been watching the scene — undisturbed by what was happening. Some were even heard laughing.
In another video, a reluctant fighter says "wait" as his opponent smacks him in the face. "No one said we started yet," he says, holding his hands out to the side in an appeal to the crowd. An Instagram user, quinwithers, commented: "This was the most funniest fight I ever seen."
In the longest video posted on the page, the punches from two sets of fighters echo off the bathroom walls before one picks up his opponent and throws him through a toilet stall door onto a student using the commode. This video lasted for a minute.
One more video involves another fight between two girls, but this time was set in a common area. A girl, called Angel in the film, grapples with another seated girl, hovering over her, throwing punches before dragging her to the ground. Only in that video can school safety officers be seen stopping the fight. "I’m dead my bestie Dragged her off the couch," quinwithers said. Another Instagram user, joshioperkio, commented: "my sis did her thing."
Downers Grove South, located at 1436 Norfolk St., is responsible for nearly 2,900 students, according to U.S. News & World Report.
