3/25/22 Enews From CCSD93

Dear Friend of CCSD93,
Messages From
Superintendent Hill:
I’m thrilled to share that during the weeks of April 11-22, CCSD93’s schools will once again participate in the Community-Wide Food Drive, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Carol Stream, to help restock local food pantries that serve all of CCSD93’s communities.
Families will be invited to donate nonperishable food items and other household essentials like toiletries and diapers. I am always so grateful to our families for their generosity in helping neighbors in need. View this flyer for specifics and watch for more from your child’s school.
Morning Breakfast Service to Start 4/4
Throughout the 2021-22 school year, at the end of the school day interested elementary and middle school students have been provided with breakfast for the following day.
Starting after spring break on Monday, April 4, our elementary and middle schools will discontinue this practice and will once again start serving breakfast in the morning. This typically occurs during the 15 or 20 minutes before the start of the school day. Please watch for more information from your child’s school on exact timing and school location for breakfast pickup.
As always, breakfast consists of grains, fruit or juice, and milk. For the remainder of this school year, they will continue to be provided free of charge to families. You can always find breakfast and lunch menus posted to our food service website.
CCSD93 to Discontinue Low Risk Exposure Letters
As CCSD93’s COVID-19 cases continue to decline and DuPage County remains in the Low COVID-19 Community Level, after today, we will discontinue emailing low risk exposure letters to parents and staff members when a case has been found to be present in a school. We will reassess this practice if the COVID-19 Community Level rises above Low.
CCSD93 will continue to work with the DuPage County Health Department to trace close contact COVID-19 exposure within its school buildings. Those who have been determined to have experienced close contact will continue to be notified.
Moving forward, we will reevaluate our mitigation strategies based on current guidance and will notify you if any additional measures change. You can always find up-to-date information on COVID-19 cases within CCSD93 on our COVID-19 Dashboard.
Wishing You a Restful Spring Break
There will be no school next week, March 28 through April 1, 2022 for spring break. I wish our students, families and staff members a restful and enjoyable week away. We will welcome students back on Monday, April 4.
Please review the following stories for more great news from CCSD93.
Sincerely,
Dr. David H. Hill

March Book Madness Champion Crowned
This month, all students at Carol Stream, Heritage Lakes and Roy DeShane elementary schools were challenged to further develop a love for literacy with the 2022 Laugh Out Loud March Book Madness Tournament, organized by their schools’ innovation media specialists
A bracket of 16 humorous books was established and all students at each school were invited to read the stories and vote on head to head book matchups until only one remained. B.J. Novak’s The Book with No Pictures won the final showdown against Ryan T. Higgins’s We Don’t Eat Our Classmates with a final vote count of 448 to 245.
The exciting event was successful in inspiring a greater enthusiasm for reading at the participating schools.
