A sixth-grade sexual education class taught to students at Glen Ellyn School District 89 "common terminology" seems out of touch with how most people describe sexual identity.

"Today we will ... learn about human sexuality," a slide introducing the series reads. "By the end of class ... you will be able to describe the common terminology used when discussing human sexuality."

The set of slides was purportedly taught to sixth-graders at Glen Ellyn School District 89.

The slides were posted on Twitter by radio show host Dan Proft.

"As promised on @MorningAnswer, slides from sex ed for 6th graders in Glen Ellyn SD 89. #twill," Proft tweeted.

Another slide titled "LGBTQ+" breaks down the banner sexual preferences, kind of.

The slide describes lesbians as "non male attracted top a non male" and "Gay" as a "non female attracted to a non female."

That definition seems to run outside the lines of widely accepted dictionary definitions of a "lesbian" as a "gay women or to homosexuality in women" and gay as "homosexual (used especially of a man)."

The lesson also eschews heterosexuality for another term, "cisgender," which means a "personal identity and gender correlate with sex," also know as the overwhelming majority of people.

The term cisgender began its use in academic journals in the 1990s before crossing over into the mainstream. Its popular use appears to be limited and rather uncommon.

Using cisgender has also been deemed divisive in the LGBTQ community

Another slide includes an illustration of "The Genderbread Person" and includes gender labels such as "Gender Identity," "Gender Expression," "Biological Sex" and "Sexual Orientation."

Glen Ellyn School District 89 oversees five schools and that includes over 2,300 students in preschool through middle school.

Superintendent Dr. Emily Tammaru makes $222,242 in base salary per year.

The average teacher salary for the district is $83,412 per year.
