Hanover Park, IL – The Hanover Park Police Department is pleased to report that a new all-time low Part I Crime total was recorded in the Village in 2021. Part I Crime is the benchmark used by the FBI to determine crime rates in cities and villages.
Overall, 234 Part I Crimes were recorded in 2021 versus 300 in 2020. Of the Part I crimes reported, 83% were property related crimes. The Village also experienced a 22% drop in violent crime from 2020 to 2021.
“The all-time low Part I crime total for Hanover Park in 2021 is an accomplishment that we are extremely proud to announce,” said Police Chief Michael Menough. “This result is a credit to the officers working day in and day out and to the residents, businesses, and stakeholders in the community who partner with us to keep Hanover Park as safe as possible. Our investment into community policing strategies, state of the art technology, outstanding officer training, and adherence to professional best practices standards have paid off and we will continue with those commitments going forward.” Chief Menough also emphasized that a significant percentage of property crimes in the Village involve thefts from unlocked vehicles. “While this result is an outstanding reflection on our community, there are still those who seek to victimize others that fail to secure their property. I would like to encourage all residents and visitors to stay vigilant and make sure they lock their unattended vehicles.”
Overall, Part I crime in the Village of Hanover Park has been on a downward trend over the past decade as shown in the chart below:
