Updated COVID-19 Exclusions & Isolation Practices
New joint guidance issued by IDPH and ISBE.
Lake Park High School is adopting the new joint guidance issued by the Illinois Department Public Health (IDPH) and Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE). This update is based on the new exclusion and isolation guidance released by the CDC. This change will allow students to return to school sooner in some circumstances. However, please keep in mind that the updated rules will not shorten the number of days student-athletes will need to isolate or quarantine from the District’s athletics program.

New Guidance
Under this new guidance individuals who test positive for COVID-19 must still isolate for 10 days unless after five days they are asymptomatic or demonstrate improved symptom resolution and are fever-free. If each of these conditions is met, qualifying individuals may return to school provided they meet the following criteria:
  • Continue to wear a well-fitted mask around others (including at home) for 5 additional days after release from isolation. If unable to wear a mask when around others, the positive individual should continue to isolate for a total of 10 days.
  • Avoid being in close proximity to students or staff who are immunocompromised or at high risk for severe disease.
  • For students, if masks need to be removed (e.g., for lunch), ensure 6 feet of physical distancing until the 11th day following symptom onset or test specimen collection. (There will be a special room set up for lunches at both buildings. Be sure to eat in your assigned room during day 6-10 not in the lunchroom.)
  • For staff, if masks need to be removed (e.g., for lunch), ensure isolation until the 11th day following symptom onset or test specimen collection.

The complete guidance, including procedures for those identified as close-contacts and procedures for student-athletes, is available in the District’s COVID-19 Exclusion and Isolation Practices.

Please Opt-In to Saliva PCR Testing
Lake Park is fortunate to have on-site saliva-based PCR testing available weekly for all students and staff, with results turned around in 36 hours or less. This is a great opportunity that is not available to many people in the current testing environment.

Unfortunately, less than a quarter of Lake Park families have opted in to test on a weekly basis. Testing is one of the District’s best mitigation measures to help reduce the spread of COVID-19. Please reconsider opting-in your student for the weekly testing program that is available to all students, regardless of vaccination status. Follow this link to complete the opt-in form

Thank you for helping to maintain a safe and healthy in-person learning environment.

Illinois 5Essentials Survey
Students, teachers and parents/guardians can provide feedback until March 11.
Lake Park joins the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) in the statewide survey of school climate and learning conditions. The survey provides a unique opportunity for students, teachers and parents/guardians to have a voice in improving their schools. The Illinois 5Essentials Survey provides a comprehensive picture of a school’s organizational culture measuring five “essentials” critical for school success: effective leaders, collaborative teachers, involved families, supportive environment, and ambitious instruction.

Students will complete the research-based survey, which identifies strengths and weaknesses in their school’s learning environment, during their physical education, driver education and health classes in the coming weeks. Parents/guardians have the opportunity to complete the 5Essentials - Parent Survey as well. All responses are completely anonymous. Feedback serves as an opportunity for schools to reflect on progress since the last statewide implementation. The survey window closes on Friday, March 11.
