Eye on Education: Illinois renters and landlords invited to apply for Illinois Rental Payment Program to receive financial assistance for rent

The Eye on Education section of the newsletter highlights an education-oriented article or topic. The goal is to provide an outside perspective and more information to continue to educate parents/guardians, students, staff members and community members to improve the educational learning environment of District 88.

This week’s topic is the Illinois Rental Payment Program (ILRPP). This grant provides financial assistance for rent to income-eligible Illinois renters and their landlords, who have been impacted by the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. Renters in Illinois who are behind on rent because of COVID-19 could be eligible for up to $25,000 and 18 months of emergency rental payments.

Renters and landlords can request assistance, and the deadline to apply is Jan. 9. Proof of citizenship isn’t required, and the ILRPP is a grant that doesn’t need to be repaid. For more information, and to apply, go to https://tinyurl.com/2p95y6mx.

Counseling Corner: Addison Trail Guidance Department shares important information regarding course selection for the 2022-23 school year

The time has arrived for students to select courses for the 2022-23 school year.

This year, pupils will select their classes online through PowerSchool. They will learn how to complete preliminary course selections during their resource period and will then have individual meetings with their counselor to finalize their selections. During those meetings, teacher recommendations, post-high school plans, previous courses and grades and interests/motivation also will be discussed.

We encourage parents/guardians to be part of the course-selection process with their child. Course descriptions can be viewed at https://www.dupage88.net/site/page/19, and course selections can be reviewed in PowerSchool through the following times/dates.

  • Sophomores: Access available through 7 a.m. on Jan. 10
  • Juniors: Access available through 7 a.m. on Jan. 24
  • Freshmen: Access available through 7 a.m. on Feb. 7
* Students will have until Feb. 28 to make changes to course selections. All course selections will be considered final at that time.

Important reminders:

  • Students need to be enrolled in at least six periods, plus a lunch.
  • Schedules are computer generated, and we are unable to confirm a specific schedule.
  • Course selections will be considered final on Feb. 28.
If you would like to meet with your child’s counselor, contact him or her directly at https://dupage88.libguides.com/Guidance. Counselors also will be available during the Guidance Department Open House from 4:30 to 7 p.m. on Feb. 24.

  • This is a semimonthly column that features news from the Guidance Department. The column will alternate between Addison Trail and Willowbrook.

Addison Trail provides programs, services and supports to help build positive futures for students

By Addison Trail senior Alexander Martinez

The main goal for high schools is to help prepare students for a successful future. And a great example of a school that builds futures for its students is none other than Addison Trail.

Addison Trail is committed to offering flexible pathways to make sure students have ample opportunities, including earning college credits and gaining workplace certifications/experiences. The school provides a variety of programs and supports for all students such as field trips to college campuses and worksites. Pupils also can contact their counselor for assistance and advice.

For more information about services available to Addison Trail students, click on the link or on the image at right. (read more)

My counselor was always helping me. I would go meet with her nearly every day with questions on college applications, and she helped me call a college about financial aid and made sure I was on the right track for my goals.

- Addison Trail senior Analise D'Alessandro
