MAYOR'S SPECIAL EDITION

JAN. 10, 2022

Best Wishes for a Healthy and Prosperous 2022!

As we continue to do our best to overcome the coronavirus pandemic and return to a state of "normalcy," in 2021 the Village of Schaumburg enjoyed additional growth, welcomed new businesses and developments, and continued its practice of offering our residents high-quality services.

The village had much to celebrate this past year. Below are just a few of the village’s top accomplishments with additional milestones listed on the village’s website:

  • The Better Business Bureau of Chicago and Northern Illinois recognized the Village of Schaumburg as a Better Business Town, a new designation from the BBB to identify highly-engaged local communities that actively promote an ethical and trustworthy business marketplace.
  • New businesses that opened in Schaumburg last year included Bearology, Crumbl Cookies, Eggmania, Peppa Pig World of Play, Popeyes, Selfie WRLD, Shabu-You, Smashburger, Waroeng, Xtra Mile Running and more.
  • Village officials approved a measure to maintain the village’s property tax levy at the same amount that was levied in 2019 and 2020.
  • The financial services firm S&P Global Ratings (S&P) reaffirmed the village’s AAA bond rating, which is the highest rating a municipality can obtain, as a result of proactive management of the budget at the onset of the pandemic.
  • The Village Board and county, state and federal officials celebrated the start of construction with a groundbreaking ceremony at the 90 North District Park, a primary component in the transformation of the former Motorola Solutions campus.
  • After reopening the Al Larson Prairie Center for the Arts, village staff and volunteers orchestrated a successful season of Summer Breeze concerts, a slate of fall and winter performances, and the return of Septemberfest – a cherished Schaumburg tradition celebrating 50 years.
  • In partnership with Jewel-Osco and the member communities of JEMS (the Northwest Suburban Illinois Joint Emergency Management System), Schaumburg hosted two mass vaccination events at the Renaissance Schaumburg Convention Center, where more than 6,000 doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine were administered.
  • According to official data from the 2020 U.S. Census, Schaumburg’s population increased by 6% to 78,723 in 2020 and also became more diverse with a wide range of cultures and ethnicities settling into the village.
  • Schaumburg’s continued success in the areas of engineering and public works, public safety, finance, information technology, human resources and economic development was rewarded with several industry awards and designations of excellence.

With a new year upon us, we look forward to what 2022 will bring in terms of additional investment and enhancements to the community. New projects on the horizon include:

  • The long-awaited grand opening of Tony's Fresh Market at 200 S. Roselle Rd. in Town Square.
  • Breaking ground on an exciting entertainment venue in the Entertainment District next to the Renaissance Schaumburg Hotel.
  • Continued construction on Phase 1 of the 90 North District Park, which will serve as an outdoor venue with various amenities for the public.
  • Continued multi-family residential development at Northgate at Veridian in 90 North Schaumburg.
  • Continued single-family residential development at Summit Grove, Coventry Woods and Verde Estates.
  • More new businesses opening including Kiddie Academy at 1121 E. Higgins Rd., Physicians Immediate Care at 405 W. Golf Rd., and Carvana at 1717 Penny Ln.
  • New office/warehouse building at 500 Commerce Dr.
  • Continued investment in infrastructure with key projects including:
  • Intersection enhancements at Meacham and Algonquin Roads
  • Resurfacing of Meacham Road between Higgins and Golf Roads
  • Resurfacing of Bode Road from Barrington Road to Springinsguth Road

I am extremely proud of our accomplishments from 2021, and I remain hopeful that we’ll achieve even greater success in 2022. Thank you to our dedicated village board members, staff and advisory committees, and volunteers who continue to make Schaumburg a special community for all to enjoy.

Sincerely,

Tom Dailly
