‘Trans Santa’ coming to First United Methodist Church in Downers Grove

A collection of non-profits is putting on an event featuring a “Trans Santa.”

The Elmhurst Pride Collective promoted the Trans Santa & Dr. Claus event on Facebook.

“Youth Outlook and the Illinois Safe Schools Alliance, a program of PHIMC, invite you to meet Trans Santa and Dr. Claus, 2 very special visitors from the North Pole coming to show young people and the young-at-heart diverse representation of our favorite holiday characters,” the group’s Facebook post reads.

The event will take place at the First United Methodist Church of Downers Grove located at 1032 Maple Ave in Downers Grove from 6:30-8 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 16.

“Meet and take a photo with Trans Santa and Dr. Claus, read a festive story and participate in seasonal games and activities. **Trans Santa will be outside so please dress warm. There are indoor activities as well,” the post reads.

The Elmhurst Pride Collective notes on its website that it is meant to show “support for the LGBTQ+ community and build a larger network of community allies committed to making Elmhurst safe and inclusive.”

“Masks are required to attend the event but may be taken down for photos if the participant is fully vaccinated,” the group’s Facebook post reads.

The event is part of a series being filmed for HBO Max.  

“This event is also being filmed for a HBO Max documentary about Clauses from diverse backgrounds as they spread joy throughout the holiday season,” the Elmhurst Pride Collective Sid in its Facebook post. “The feature film will be released in 2022. Filming will focus on folks interacting with Santa. A release form is required for anyone interested in being filmed. This form will be sent to you prior to attending and available on site.”

Youth Outlook is DuPage-based group focued on LGBT youths. 

"Youth Outlook provides support for LGBTQ+ youth, families and community through drop-in centers, family support, and education," its website reads.
