Benedictine University's "Journeys in Leadership" Speaker Series to Feature Amina Waheed, Producer of Al Jazeera’s Fault Lines

Speaker

Bendictine University issued the following announcement on Nov. 3

Amina Waheed, producer at Al Jazeera America’s award-winning show Fault Lines, and a leading voice in conversations around mental illness will be the next featured guest in Benedictine University's "Journeys in Leadership" speaker series on Wednesday, November 10. The virtual program will be 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and is open to the public.

Waheed will discuss her experiences as a documentarian and filmmaker, the challenges of balancing home life with her professional pursuits, and how her liberal arts education at Benedictine University prepared her for a rigorous graduate school program and her work for PBS Frontline and Al Jazeera.

Born and raised in an American oil town in Saudi Arabia, Waheed later moved to Chicago as an Indian Canadian immigrant, where she pursued work in documentary film. In addition to Al Jazeera’s Fault Lines, she has worked on productions for the PBS series FRONTLINE and a range of independent films in the U.S. and the Middle East. Waheed graduated from Benedictine University in 2008 with a bachelor’s degree in political science and was also that year’s Procopian Award winner. She went on to earn her master’s degree from UC Berkeley’s Graduate School of Journalism.

Journeys in Leadership is Benedictine’s nonpartisan speaker series designed to highlight the success and challenges of an eclectic mix of local, state, national and international leaders from across a range of professional and academic experiences. Stressing the importance of a liberal arts education, the common thread of its speakers is their commitment to community discourse and living active, healthy lives.
