DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SUPPORT RESOURCES FOR RESIDENTS

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Domestic violence is a serious problem with far reaching effects in communities. In the following video, Licensed Clinical Social Worker Linda Young of the Schaumburg Police Department discusses how the village's Domestic Violence Response Team and their team of social workers can help residents dealing with domestic abuse and determine a course of action. To reach a social worker, residents should dial 311 in Schaumburg.

FALL RECYCLING EVENT OCT. 9

The Village of Schaumburg will host its annual Fall Recycling Event from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Oct. 9 in the west parking lot of Wintrust Field, 1999 S. Springinsguth Rd. The community-wide event will include document destruction, electronics recycling and paint recycling. Some items will incur fees. Vendors will accept cash or credit onsite.

Docu-Shred will provide document destruction that will be available until the truck reaches capacity. Schaumburg residents can bring up to two banker boxes per vehicle to be shredded.

The Fall Recycling Event will not accept hazardous waste, oil, antifreeze, fire extinguishers, clothes or large appliances. For more information, including a full list of fees and accepted items, visit the village’s website.

ELECTRICAL AGGREGATION PROGRAM CHANGES

The village recently approved a new agreement with Eligo Energy for the electrical aggregation program which will run from December 2021 through November 2022 at a rate that will match the monthly ComEd Price-to-Compare. Unlike previous electrical aggregation programs, not all residents will be eligible for the village’s program, but all residents will pay the same rate for their energy. Eligible residents will receive a letter from Eligo and will be enrolled in the program where they will pay a rate equal to ComEd’s monthly default rate. Residents who are not eligible will receive a letter from Eligo explaining that they will be returned to ComEd’s default service starting in December 2021.

As part of the village’s agreement with Eligo, our supplier will purchase renewable power to offset a portion of the village’s total electric consumption. Additionally, Schaumburg will receive a civic grant of $164,191 from Eligo which the Village Board authorized the village to spend on an environmental project to be determined in 2022. Local Students Learn About Manufacturing Careers

Manufacturing Day (Oct. 1) helps show the reality of modern manufacturing careers by encouraging thousands of companies and educational institutions around the nation to open their doors to students, parents, teachers and community leaders. Sandvik Coromant, a supplier of manufacturing tools and machining solutions that drive innovations in the metalworking industry, hosted a tour and open house last week for local students interested in manufacturing careers at its recently renovated facility at 1665 Penny Lane. If your student would like to learn more about local manufacturing career opportunities, visit the Golden Corridor Advanced Manufacturing Partnership (GCAMP) website.

Alligator Records 50th Anniversary - All Star Blues Revue Oct. 23

The Al Larson Prairie Center for the Arts, 201 Schaumburg Ct., celebrates Alligator Records’ 50th anniversary with a blues revue featuring three of the label’s most acclaimed blues artists all on one bill. The performance includes guitarist Nick Moss, Toronzo Cannon on vocals and Billy Branch on the harp. This can't miss blues revue takes place at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 23. Trickster Celebrates Indigenous Day with Mobile Museum of Tolerance

Trickster Cultural Center, 190 S. Roselle Road, invites the public to join them on Monday, Oct. 11 from 4 to 8 p.m. for a special Indigenous Day event honoring the Native community and celebrating the opening of the Mobile Museum of Tolerance. Opening remarks will begin at 5:30 p.m. followed by drum and dance performances. The Mobile Museum of Tolerance will also be open for tours from 3 to 6 p.m. on Oct. 12-13 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 14. For more information, visit the Trickster Cultural Center website.

Docomomo Schweikher House Tours Oct. 9

The Schweikher House Preservation Trust, in collaboration with Docomomo US, will offer a selection of in-depth specialty tours of Schweikher-Langsdorf Home & Studio on Saturday, Oct. 9 that will focus on the travels of Paul Schweikher and Martyl Langsdorf and how their experiences influenced their work as architect and artist respectively. WELCOME ENTERRIUM

Enterrium recently held a ribbon cutting event for the grand opening of its new restaurant and video arcade at 2 Woodfield Mall. Enterrium, formerly known as Pac-Man Entertainment, is a contemporary American restaurant and arcade which features an elevated craft bar, a sports bar, 8 boutique bowling lanes, classic and modern arcade games, and private event space. PLAZA RENOVATIONS UNDERWAY

Construction began this week on the Jack Siegel Memorial Plaza renovations between the Robert O. Atcher Municipal Center, 101 Schaumburg Ct., and the Al Larson Prairie Center for the Arts, 201 Schaumburg Ct. The majority of the work is anticipated to be completed within the next two months. During this time, the southeastern entrance to Village Hall, from the plaza, will remain open. The west entrance to the Prairie Center will be closed. COFFEE WITH THE COUNCIL OCT. 9

Residents are invited to participate in the village's Coffee with the Council beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 9 at the Schaumburg Police Department's Community Room, 1000 W. Schaumburg Rd. Coffee with the Council provides an opportunity for individuals to engage with village board members about topics of interest in the community. CONSTRUCTION PROGRESS

Meacham Road at Algonquin Road Intersection Improvements

Crews will continue working on storm sewer and water systems during the upcoming week. Expect to see water flushing from the new hydrants as well as work on the watermain connections at the main intersection of Linden and Thoreau next week. Expect daily single-lane closures between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Please continue to watch for trucks entering and leaving the work zones.

National Parkway - Woodfield Road to American Lane

The current traffic configuration on National Parkway continues this week with one northbound lane open from Woodfield Road to American Lane. The northbound lane has shifted from the existing pavement on the west side of National Parkway to the new pavement on the east side. Southbound lanes on National Parkway between American Lane and Woodfield Road are closed with traffic continuing to be detoured. This configuration is scheduled to remain until mid-November.
