The mother of a Glenbard North student says her son is being punished after recording a teacher scolding a fellow student for not wearing his mask properly.
“My son recorded a teacher talking to a student this way and now my son is being punished,” Angel O’Brien posted on Twitter. “Please share Glenbard North.”
Libs of Tik Tok has identified the teacher as Scott Grigoletto. The teacher is heard verbally abusing the student for lowering his mask below his nose and calling the student “ a piece of s***.”
In addition, Grigoletto is heard to threaten to call police on the student before further threatening him with the prospect of “in-school suspension” under the supervision of a “military guy.”
Big League Politics commented that the student was in a school corridor, where it’s possible no one else was around, when accosted by Grigoletto, who in the video also appears to not be wearing his mask correctly.
With schools across the state in the midst of reopening for in-person learning, Gov. J.B. Pritzker recently moved to reimpose a universal masking mandate requiring all public and private school students to wear masks.
With the mask mandate also extended to all teachers and other school staffers, state schools Chief Carmen Ayala recently penned a letter to superintendents across the state warning that noncompliance could lead to a school losing its state recognition, which could mean a loss of state funding and access to sports associations.
After being placed on social media, the video of the Glenbard North incident quickly went viral.
John Mensik, principal of Glenbard North High School, released a statement on Sept. 10 saying Grigoletto had resigned and "will no longer be working in District 87."
