Dwayne Murray, a basketball coach and faculty member at Mount Vernon High School in New York, is saluting U.S. Rep. Sean Casten (D-Barrington) for his spirited defense of critical race theory (CRT).

“I agree with DL Hughley,” Murray said in a post to Facebook.  “This is the best defense of critical race theory I've ever heard. Take a listen.”

In the video, Casten casts those standing in opposition of the teachings as “right-wing fearmongers” and “nothing more than bullies.”

He later says, “They’re afraid to face hard truths and afraid of the will of the majority.”

Casten argues all of the hysteria created about CRT and the right-wing’s effort to demonize the teachings are inflicting real harm on real people, “adding fuel to the fire of forces hell-bent on tearing our country apart.”

Casten says no one seen as standing in the way is immune from the attacks.

“Those fearmongers are right now attacking the Trump-appointed Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Mike Milley, the highest ranking military officer in the U.S,” Casten says.

Casten argues Milley’s only offense was having the nerve to stand up for what he believes in and daring to want to make race relations better.

“His offense was having the gall to suggest our military leaders should know our history,” he says. “Racism is real in America; it hurts real people. Neither the Civil War nor Obama’s presidency ended racism in America. They were good steps, but we still have a long way to go before we live up to our founding promise of equality. The unfortunate truth is that every time we’ve moved a little bit closer to realizing Martin Luther King’s dream, it’s scared the dickens out of a certain subset of white men who are petrified to live in a world where they might be judged by the content of their character. Our founders not only tolerated chattel slavery, but they participated in it and profited off of it.”
