The Springbrook Prairie Trail's Brighton Ridge Connection will receive a $100,000 grant, Sen. John Curran (R-Downers Grove) said.
The grant to the DuPage County Forest Preserve District for the Brighton Ridge Connection would create a 10-foot-wide, 0.25-mile limestone pedestrian and bicycle trail within preserve right-of-way. The route would be located on the east side of Naperville-Plainfield Road.
"This $100,000 grant will help fund key improvements to the Springbrook Prairie Trail in DuPage County," Curran said in a March 17 Facebook post. "Thank you to IDNR for sending grant money to DuPage County!"
DuPage County's grant is part of an $885,300 in funding for the Bicycle Path Grant Program awards helping projects in seven counties. The IDNR manages the fund.
The Springbrook Prairie Traill, one of the more than 10 National Recreation Trails in Illinois, is a 9-mile loop for hiking, biking, cross-country skiing and horseback riding, according to IDNR.
Mainly limestone, this trail system was developed by the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County.
