State Rep. Seth Lewis (R-Bartlett) toasted to his first month in Springfield as a time to remember.

“During the campaign, I told voters I would work to remove Mike Madigan as Speaker of the House and initiate term limits,” Lewis posted on Facebook in February. “Mike Madigan is no longer speaker. Term limits for Speaker of the House: done. There is a lot more work to do to make Illinois a place people want to live, but not bad for a first month.”

After more than 40-years of being in power, Madigan was finally replaced as speaker in favor of Rep. Emanuel “Chris” Welch (D-Hillside) when a growing number of members from his party refused to support his reelection, as whispers about his involvement in an ongoing federal corruption probe involving ComEd grew louder.

Weeks after he was shown the door as speaker, Madigan stepped down from 22nd District House seat and as chair of the Illinois Democratic Party.
