Breakthrough Ideas, a public advocacy and education network, is opposing the tax hike it says could derail many businesses and impoverish families and individuals in Milton Township.
Former state Rep. Jeanne Ives is the co-founder and CEO of Breakthrough Ideas.
She is launching a campaign to oppose the tax hike. She said that the people who are proposing the tax hike are misleading the Milton Township residents into thinking that this bill will help improve the mental health services of the area.

Ives claim that this tax hike will only impoverish residents of Milton Township, specifically those living in Wheaton and Glen Ellyn. She also said that the township government is not responsible for providing mental health services to Milton Township; rather it is the state and county’s responsibility, which is why she’s wary about the motivation for this tax hike.
Ives added, “In fact, just a few years ago, we built a state-of-the-art mental health treatment center right in the heart of Milton Township at the DuPage County Government Complex. This money would essentially become a slush fund for township officials. Families, businesses and other taxpayers here don’t need another tax hike. We already send a lot of money to government. We need our government to start working smarter with what we have.”
