Rep. Deanne Mazzochi partnered with the  Rx Abuse Leadership Initiative of Illinois (RALI) and hosted a webinar on opioid and substance abuse, and how the community can help fight this crisis, especially during the pandemic.

Social distancing has forced people to stay away from family and friends, bringing about a tremendous impact on mental health.

In her opening remarks, Mazzochi said that the pandemic has not stopped the opioid crisis and it has continued in communities across the country. Social isolation has made it very difficult for those struggling with substance misuse and abuse.

She said that it's important to, “learn what to look for in the home, as well as being aware of those who may be struggling with increased anxiety and substance abuse all around us. We really need to be aware of our loved ones who are struggling, and also to know where we can go for help.”

Mazzochi thanked the experts and all those involved, for their “wonderful work in trying to help those who suffer from addiction,” and said that while misuse and abuse of opioids is a personal issue, it has a great impact on families and communities.

She further said that it was good to see communities respond to the crisis by getting educated and getting help in tackling the problem.
