Burr Ridge Community Consolidated School District 180 issued the following announcement on Nov. 19.
As you have no doubt heard, that the information regarding the spread of COVID is getting worse and with the holidays approaching there are increasing fears that the spread of the virus will put additional strains on our medical providers. Currently the positivity test rate in DuPage County is at 12.8% and rising and it should be under 8%. New cases are at 429 per 100,000 and that metric should be at 50.
As a district, possible cases and the resulting quarantine related to close contacts to someone with COVID resulted in our staffing being stretched very thin resulting in our going to all remote last Monday. We know that as positivity in the community increases we will see more and more close contact situations for our students and staff. Quite simply, we do not have enough staff to continue social distancing in our classrooms and find replacement teachers/staff if many are out due to close contact or child-care issues related to COVID.
Given this information and out of an abundance of caution to keep all our students and staff safe, our district will continue with all remote teaching through January 19th (the day after MLK day). This extended period of remote learning will help us avoid opening school for in-person learning and then having to end in-person learning after Thanksgiving and Winter Break due to multiple close contacts (or worse, possible confirmed cases) which result in a limited number of staff being available to conduct in-person learning. Remaining all remote for two-weeks after Winter Break would eliminate having to close classrooms due to close contacts that may occur during the holidays.
Parent-Teacher Conferences will continue Monday, November 23rd and Tuesday, November 24th as scheduled via Zoom. Please check with your child’s teacher to be sure you have an assigned time. Also, please be sure that you have updated your contact information with your child’s school secretary and sign up to our twitter feed at @BRCCSD180. Attendance will continue to be taken every day and students not participating will be counted as absent and may be retained. Please contact your school principal if you are having any issues regarding remote learning. We will have someone at both school offices to answer questions.
All district students can receive weekly meals every Mondays from 2:30-4PM at Door #10 at AMJES. I greatly appreciate anything that you can do in the community to help move these metrics in a positive direction including wearing face coverings, watching your distance, and washing your hands. Please use this time to stay home and observe social distancing so we can get back to in-person learning as soon as possible.
Additional updates and information regarding e-Learning are being posted to the District webpage at www.ccsd180.org and the DuPage County Health Department webpage at www.dupagehealth.org.
Stay Safe,
Tom Schneider, Superintendent
