Mazzochi blasts governor's latest COVID restrictions as incredibly arrogant: 'People have had enough'

State Rep. Deanne Mazzochi (R-Elmhurst) frets Gov. J.B. Pritzker has broken all the rules in endangering the economic viability of the people he’s supposed to speak for.

“Once again, his actions on the COVID-19 front show he is perfectly happy to bypass the people on issues of critical importance to everyone and certainly within my district. The revolt against this approach continues to grow every day,” Mazzochi told the DuPage Policy Journal. “It’s really quite dangerous because if you want people to buy into such critical legislation you have allow for their responsible response.”

Mazzochi fears more of the same heartache and struggle based on the governor’s recent decision to reenact coronavirus restrictions in counties across the state based on an uptick in infection rates. Despite the governor pointing to rising numbers, the move has sparked outrage and instant pushback among small business owners already hard hit by earlier shutdowns.

With a Facebook page dedicated to businesses planning to defy his order already created and launched, Pritzker is now threatening to send the Illinois State Police to the regions where restaurants and bars are deemed to be in violation.

“I think it is incredibly arrogant of the governor to be doing this while he is hiding from legislators all the underlining data and details he claims to be relying on in putting these policies in place,” Mazzochi added. “It’s not surprising that people have had enough and we’re getting these kinds of responses.”

Almost as much as the governor, Mazzochi said the blame for all added heartaches lies with Democrat lawmakers.

“Too many of them have been willing to cede their public policymaking roles because they didn’t want to have to make hard decisions,” she said. “That’s precisely why this state is in such a mess to begin with.”
