Bensenville School District 2 recently issued the following announcement.
Dear BSD2 Parents -
It was great to welcome students into our schools this week. Seven months was a long time to miss them.
This was our first step in what will probably be a long journey through COVID. Travelling that journey successfully means making incremental progress every week.
I’m so happy to report this week’s progress. Students and teachers were back, making their classroom relationships stronger with the in-person time. Everyone lived up to expectations for our safety practices. Students who have elected remote instruction were part of the process at every step.
Next week, we look forward to seeing your students again in our classrooms.
To keep all of us safe, we monitor COVID trends in the schools, in the villages of Bensenville and Wood Dale, and in DuPage County. Twice a week I review these trends with area superintendents and officials from the DuPage County Health Department.
In this week’s review, we saw that COVID cases are on the rise again across the state and country. In DuPage County, new cases have increased to the point that the county-wide community transmission level may change from moderate to substantial next week.
Fortunately, not all metrics moved in the same way. Other metrics -- particularly infections among children and cases of transmission at schools -- remain low. That is why DCHD officials are continuing to permit in-person instruction if we follow good safety practices.
Alternating between in-person and remote instruction remains possible, even likely, as the year continues. Local COVID transmission levels will probably rise and fall and the District will adjust when they do. You should prepare to do so, as well. We will closely monitor this situation and act on the advice of the DCHD experts.
Thank you for your patience and your support throughout this school year. It’s what keeps us going.
Finally, please remember to certify your student’s health each morning that their cohort attends in-person instruction. That’s an essential part of keeping everyone as safe as possible.
Sincerely,
Dr. James Stelter
Superintendent of Schools
Bensenville School District 2
