We Stand for the Students organized a student rally yesterday to protest Hinsdale Township High School District 86's decision to begin school remotely.
"The overall health and well-being of our students is in jeopardy," We Stand for the Students Rally said in a flyer. "Help us raise awareness regarding the social and emotional impact of e-learning."
The rally had three goals. It sought to bring attention to the concerns of virtual learning, to ask that students return to in-person instruction at Hinsdale Central and Hinsdale South, and to call for the return of school activities and sport teams.
The rally was held 5:15-5:45 p.m. at the Hinsdale Central main entrance, at 55th and Grant Street.
Local students were to speak about their concerns and their previous experiences with distance learning, according to the We Stand for the Students Rally message. Community members also had the chance to speak at the rally on behalf of students to express the needs of these students and why remote learning is more harmful than beneficial.
Those who attended the rally were asked to wear face mask or covering and Hinsdale Central or Hinsdale South spirit wear. Students and community members were also encouraged to make signs for the rally.
