Illinois State House District 41 issued the following announcement on Sept. 2.

State Representative Grant Wehrli (R-Naperville) has been chosen as one of three House Republicans who will serve on a bipartisan Special Investigative Committee that will look into elements of the recently-publicized Deferred Prosecution Agreement between ComEd and the US Attorney’s Office of Northern Illinois. The subject of the special investigation petition is Speaker of the House Mike Madigan.

Joining Wehrli on the panel are Republican State Representatives Deanne Mazzochi (R-Elmhurst) and Tom Demmer (R-Dixon), and Democratic Representatives Emmanuel “Chris” Welch (D-Westchester), who will serve as the committee chair, Elizabeth Hernandez (D-Cicero), and Natalie Manley (D-Romeoville).

Upon learning of the appointment, Rep. Wehrli issued the following statement:

“The allegations outlined in the deferred prosecution agreement are quite serious and warrant a comprehensive investigation. House Rule 91 provides for the creation of a special investigative committee, and it is an honor to be chosen to serve. This is incredibly important work and I look forward to our deliberations.”
