Issued the following announcement on Aug. 14.

In 2018, Sean Casten’s campaign made accessibility and transparency a signature issue in their race against then-Congressman Peter Roskam. Casten made the case for a robust debate schedule in IL-06 just two years ago. In a letter to Roskam, Casten stated: ‘Debates are healthy and important for our democracy, and voters demand them because they want to participate in the election process…  I believe voters deserve the opportunity to see and hear us where they live.’

He went on to demand five debates – one in each county.

In a recent letter to the Casten campaign, the Ives’ camp asked for 5 debates – one in each county. In 2020, however, the Casten campaign has made it clear they believe one League of Women Voters forum is all the vetting the owe voters in this cycle.

“I guess a couple years in Washington can change a guy,” said Ives. “There isn’t much to say,  except to send his message from just two years ago right back to him. Sean Casten’s actions speak for themself. To borrow from Harry Truman, if Sean can’t stand the heat he should get out of the House.”
