Illinois State House District 48 issued the following announcement on July 8.
In the spirit of Independence Day, state Rep. Terra Costa Howard, D-Glen Ellyn, is encouraging those who have served our country, and their families, to contribute their names and stories to the Illinois Veterans History Project, to be preserved and shared for generations to come.
“The Illinois Veterans History Project was created by Secretary of State Jesse White 20 years ago, to record the stories of Illinoisans who have served our country,” said Costa Howard. “Veterans are a critical part of our history, and future generations can benefit from learning about their life stories, experiences and perspectives.”
The Illinois Patriot Information Form is available in paper format at local public libraries and at Secretary of State driver services facilities, or by visiting https://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/library/public/veteransproject.html. Participants also may submit an oral recorded history that will be placed in the Illinois Digital Archives and the Library of Congress Veterans Project.
“By recording the stories of people who have served our country, we are preserving our collective history as Illinoisans,” Costa Howard said. “It is so important, for our veterans and for our entire communities, to honor these personal histories and keep their memories alive for future generations. I encourage veterans and their families to visit the Secretary of State’s website to learn more about how they can contribute to this important and moving project.”
