Republican state House candidate Laura Hois sees more illicit occurrences in Springfield than ever before.
“Business as usual in Illinois means corruption as usual and it hurts working-class families,” Hois, who is running against incumbent state Rep. Anne Stava-Murray (D-Naperville) in the 81st District, told the DuPage Policy Journal. “I remain hopeful that investigators continue rooting out corrupt leaders.”
Hois, a Downers Grove resident, points to a new WBEZ report that finds that over his first 18 months in office, Democrat Gov. J.B. Pritzker has made at least 35 hires from a so-called “clout list” compiled by longtime House Speaker Mike Madigan (D-Chicago) as an example of all the work that still desperately needs to be done.
“I’m running to end this reign,” she added. “Both the governor and Madigan continue to advocate for higher taxes that hurt small businesses and families in my district.”
More and more, Hois said she is hearing concerns from citizens about how the state can finally free itself from the clutches of Madigan, the longest-serving leader in state history.
“This is the age-old question asked by Democrats and Republicans alike,” she said. “Madigan has been at the center of numerous investigations that are either ongoing or have led to indictments and he should resign.”
Hois said by having to see how closely aligned Pritzker and Madigan have become in enacting policy, she sees that what's wrong for the state has only made her stronger and more determined.
“The governor and Mike Madigan have the same agenda that hurts Illinois taxpayers and forces families and jobs out of the state,” she said. “That is why I will serve as an independent check on both.”
