Illinois State House District 45 issued the following announcement on June 12.

This session, state Rep. Diane Pappas, D-Itasca, supported a piece of legislation to expand the sale of adult beverages through pickup and delivery to boost sales for small businesses.

“This unprecedented health crisis has caused a great deal of harm to our economy, and many local businesses are struggling to stay afloat,” said Pappas. “Providing bars and restaurants the flexibility to sell mixed drinks under strict regulations will help them access financial relief and stability.”

To help local businesses impacted by the COVID-19 outbreak, Pappas supported House Bill 2682 to allow bars and restaurants to sell cocktails and other mixed drinks for curbside pickup and delivery. This measure would require adult beverages to be kept in sealed and labeled containers with tamper-proof seals or caps and prohibit delivery through third-party services. The measure is now law.

“This new law will serve as a critical lifeline for bars and restaurants to bring in additional income until the state can fully reopen,” Pappas said. “As we look toward getting our state back on track, we must work together to support our small businesses during these unprecedented times.”
