An Elmhurst advocacy group's executive director will speak before the Hinsdale High School District 86 School Board in October as part of a settlement of an open meetings lawsuit reached in May.
The Daily Herald reported Maryam Judar, executive director of the Citizen Advocacy Center in Elmhurst, will speak before the board about the First Amendment and the state's Open Meetings Act for 40 minutes. Judar's talk will be followed by a 20-minute question-and-answer session, according to the report.
Judar, who previously was the community lawyer for the advocacy center, was named executive director in 2013. Her talk is part of an open meetings federal lawsuit settlement unanimously approved by the school board in December. The lawsuit was filed by three community members in February of last year.
Under the settlement, school board members also will receive training on the state's Open Meetings Act, according to the report.
