Illinois State House District 45 issued the following announcement on May 19.
State Rep. Diane Pappas, D-Itasca, is promoting the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) to support families impacted by the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak.
“This pandemic has put a lot of Illinoisans out of work, and many working families can no longer afford to pay for their utilities,” said Papas. “Families can utilize this utility bill assistance program to access the financial support they need to get through this difficult time.”
Pappas is promoting LIHEAP to help families impacted by the outbreak. By state order, utility companies have suspended disconnections and late fees. Members in areas served by ComEd can note that ComEd recently announced they would extend this moratorium on disconnections through the end of June. Additionally, the period to apply for LIHEAP funding has been extended until June 30.
“Although this resource is a critical step forward, there remains a lot of work to be done to ensure all families have the support they need,” Pappas said. “No matter the circumstances, every Illinois family is deserving of empathy and compassion during this time.”
