DuPage County residents have until Sept. 25 to apply for the 2020 Community Services Block Grant scholarship program.
The scholarship helps high academic performing low-income students pay for books, supplies, tuition and other school-related items. The Daily Herald reports the application deadline was extended due to COVID-19.
Funded and developed by the DuPage County Department of Community Services and the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, scholarship amounts range from $500 to $2,500 with preference given to those studying in STEM or emerging occupation fields.
Qualified applicants must demonstrate a household income of at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty level; be enrolled or have been accepted at an Illinois accredited higher educational or occupational training institute; and have a GPA of 2.5 or higher.
Among the documentation that must be submitted along with the application are official school transcripts, two letters of recommendation, and an original essay of 500 words.
