Illinois State House District 56 issued the following announcement on April 16
In an effort to continue sharing new resources for those experiencing difficulties during the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, state Rep. Michelle Mussman, D-Schaumburg, is highlighting the Illinois Department of Human Services’ (IDHS) newly established, free emotional support text line known as Call4Calm.
“With such dramatic changes impacting all of our lives over the past few weeks, it is only natural that some community members are struggling to cope and feeling more stress for a variety of reasons during this pandemic,” Mussman said. “Please know that you are not alone. There are free resources that are here to help, and there is no shame in seeking help during these difficult times.”
Mussman is encouraging those in need to use the IDHS Mental Health Division’s new free-of-charge emotional support Call4Calm text line. Residents experiencing stress or mental health issues can text “TALK” to 552020 to be connected with a mental health professional. Those whose preferred language is Spanish can text “HABLAR” to the same number. Individuals can also text other keywords such as “FOOD,” “SHELTER” or “UNEMPLOYMENT” to the Call4Calm number for assistance accessing those resources.
“Many residents are feeling anxious, shut-in, and stressed out since the stay at home order began,” Mussman continued. “I encourage anyone who is in need of mental health care or other resources to take advantage of Call4Calm.”
