13. REPORT FROM STATE'S ATTORNEY'S OFFICE

Member Noonan exited the room at 10:08am

14. OLD BUSINESS Director Snyder updated the Committee on current salt supplies and procurement of salt for the 2020/2021 winter season. This winter has been relatively mild and salt supplies are abundant. 2019/2020 unit pricing is higher than the prior year due to high demand for salt in 2018/2019. Due to current low demand this winter, the Transportation Committee concurred to going out to bid for the 2020/2021 winter season rather than renew the current contract/pricing.

15. NEW BUSINESS Annually, IDOT solicits applications for federal safety funds. Several counties have begun to implement flashing yellow arrows instead of the traditional green ball indication for permissive left turn movements. Studies have shown the flashing yellow arrow improves safety for left turning movements. DOT will present the concept of flashing yellow arrows at an upcoming Committee meeting for discussion and possible application of safety funds to implement flashing yellow arrows on priority corridors.

Vice Chair Healy briefed the Committee on a joint initiative between NACO and Class I Railroads to establish a program to fund highway/rail grade separations nationally. Focus of the program would be to improve safety, reduce highway congestion and more efficiently operate our highway/rail networks.
