Laura Hois (R-Downers Grove) is hoping voters of the 81st District see her as the face of restoration when they go to the polls today.
“Illinoisans have lost trust in our government,” Hois told the DuPage Policy Journal. “I hope our campaign provides one reason for hope and for families to choose to stay in Illinois and thrive.”
Even as she’s running unopposed in Tuesday’s Republican primary, Hois is hoping that thought is foremost on the minds of voters already desperate for change from freshmen lawmaker Anne Stava-Murray (D-Naperville).
“I want to secure a brighter future for Illinois with ethics reform, property tax reform and spending restraint,” she added.
Hois argues one way of assuring that can be is by rejecting Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s long sought after progressive tax as a replacement for the current flat tax system.
“I oppose the proposed progressive income tax, which would cause even more people and business owners to move to other states for better opportunities and lower taxes while she supports it,” she said.
Hois has also vowed to fight for greater transparency in Springfield, citing a flood of still unfolding corruption scandals as an irrefutable example of the need for such change.
“I am running for state representative because the policies coming out of Springfield don’t represent our priorities or values,” she previously told DuPage Policy Journal. “There is a culture of corruption in government and we need individuals who will stand up to those in power. I will work in a bipartisan manner to usher in a new era of transparency and accountability. That means supporting tighter regulations on lobbying and changing the culture through structural reforms like term limits and fair maps.”
