Illinois State House District 42 issued the following announcement on Feb. 21.

On session days in Springfield, State Representatives have busy days filled with meetings, committee hearings and time spent on the House floor considering bills. But what about the other days, when legislators are back in their home districts? Here is a glimpse into a typical day for State Representative Amy Grant (R-Wheaton) when she is tending to the needs of her constituents in the 42nd District.

This particular day in February began with a tour of the DuPage County Historical Museum in Wheaton. The building also houses the Wheaton Park District. After touring the museum and enjoying the artifacts, Representative Grant sat down with Michael Benard, Executive Director of the Wheaton Park District, to discuss park district operations and program offerings.

After leaving the museum, Representative Grant visited the Winfield Fire Protection District, where she spoke with Chief Steve Evans, fire fighters and other staff about the valuable services they provide to the community, and how some state legislation affects their department.

After a quick lunch, Representative Grant prepared for some afternoon meetings, met with her District Office Director and read through some draft legislation she was preparing to file in Springfield.

From 1:30 – 3:30 on this day, Representative Grant held a Coffee & Conversation event, where she met individually or in small groups with constituents. Local residents spoke about taxes, education, FOID card renewal problems and a variety of other topics during the two-hour event.

Following the Coffee & Conversation meetings, Representative Grant spent additional time working on her legislative agenda and talking with constituents who stopped by to talk about issues important to them.

Lawmakers work hard when they are in their home districts tending to the needs of their constituents. When they are not in Springfield, they engage with the community and work on local issues. They also host a variety of outreach events. Some of the issues brought forward through district-level meetings and events are transformed into legislation that Representative Grant champions in Springfield.
