Issued the following announcement on Jan. 28.
Jeanne Ives, the Republican candidate running to represent Illinois’ Sixth Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives, has qualified for “On the Radar” status, the initial step of the National Republican Congressional Committee’s Young Guns program. Ives is one of 31 “On the Radar” candidates nationwide, but the only one from Illinois’ Sixth District.
The NRCC’s Young Guns program mentors and supports candidates in races across the country and works to provide them with the necessary tools to run successful, winning campaigns against their Democratic opponents. The program requires candidates to work towards specific goals and meet benchmarks throughout the election cycle to ensure their campaigns remain competitive, well-funded and communicative within their districts.
“We are pleased to add another round of impressive candidates to our Young Guns program,” said House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy. “The socialist Democrats’ sham impeachment investigation has inspired hundreds of well-qualified candidates to run for office and put the majority well within our reach.”
“Today’s announcement by the NRCC confirms the momentum behind our campaign to unseat Sean Casten,” said Ives. “Over the past few months, we have been hard at work building the infrastructure to defeat Sean Casten and turn the tide of socialist that was swept in to Congress in 2018. I am tremendously grateful to have earned the support from party leaders, grassroots Republicans and voters throughout the district,” Richter added.
An Ogden & Fry head-to-head poll released on December 23 showed Ives with a 9 point lead on Casten. And Ives initial quarterly financial report showed that she has both excited donors and has the ability to raise the money that would be necessary to beat the Freshman Democrat.
The NRCC joins a wide range of other Republicans and GOP organization throwing their support behind Ives. Cook County GOP Chair Sean Morrison and Republican National Committeewoman Demetra Demonte have formally endorsed Ives. The Lake County Republican Party (chaired by ILGOP Co-Chair Mark Shaw), Club for Growth, the House Freedom Caucus, FreedomWorks, Susan B. Anthony List and Former IL-06 Congressman Peter Roskam also made official endorsements.
Rich Porter, Illinois Republican National Committeeman has thrown support behind Ives in her 2020 race. And the entire Illinois’ Republican Congressional Delegation were recently joined by House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy in hosting a fundraiser for Ives in Washington DC.
