Issued the following announcement on Dec. 18.
Having demanded impeachment since election night 2016, Democrats, including 6th District Congressman Sean Casten, voted to impeach President Trump. They did so because - when it comes right down to it - they don’t trust Americans not to re-elect him.
For almost two years, Democrats hyped ‘The Mueller Report.’ It was to be a hard-nosed investigative chronicle that would produce a tidal wave of momentum for impeachment. We were told to expect shocking revelations from Mueller that would end the Trump presidency. Instead, after 22 months and $32 million of taxpayers’ money, the report and Mueller’s own testimony gave lie to what congressional Democrats had alleged.
Undeterred, Sean Casten, Adam Schiff and House Democrats launched their next foray into overturning the results of the 2016 election.
Casten was leading the charge on impeachment before the Mueller Report was released; before there was a whistleblower or a transcript or Masterpiece Theater with Adam Schiff. He went to Congress to undo election results he didn’t like.
It is perfectly understandable that Democrats, and even some Republicans, don’t like President Trump and were unhappy he won in 2016. The remedy for that unhappiness is the next election not the nuclear option.
Keep in mind how unserious and reckless Casten & Company are with Congress’ impeachment power. On July 17, 2019, 95 of Casten’s House Democrat colleagues voted in support of an impeachment resolution over Trump’s insulting statements about the so-called “Squad.” On January 19, 2018, 66 of Casten’s House Democrat colleagues voted in support of an impeachment resolution over Trump using the phrase “sh+thole countries.” On December 6, 2017, 58 of Casten’s House Democrat colleagues voted in support of an impeachment resolution over Trump’s criticizing NFL players who knelt during the playing of the national anthem.
Are we really to believe that this is a caucus full of reasonable people who not only take their Constitutional oath seriously but are also respectful of the awesome power they possess and the responsible deployment of that power as their office demands?
“Sean Casten has spent his three years in office on crusades against the 2016 election results, the Industrial Revolution, religious liberty, private health insurance, and general decency,” said Jeanne Ives, Republican candidate for Congress (IL-06). “He is a representative of the most extreme elements of the House Democratic Caucus rather than the people who sent him to DC to represent their interests. Today, Sean Casten voted to take away your vote. In 2020, take away his vote in Congress. The 6th District doesn’t need to be ruled. We need to be represented.”
