Congressional candidate James Marter (R-Oswego) sees the impeachment proceedings of President Donald J. Trump by the Democrat-controlled U.S. House of Representatives as another reason why U.S. Rep. Lauren Underwood (D-Naperville) has to go.

“Her support for these sham proceedings based on completely false information are against America, a duly elected president and the U.S. Constitution,” the former Kendall County GOP Chairman told the DuPage Policy Journal on the same day that Democrats moved to formally impeach the president. “What they’re doing is a sham and a disgrace.”

Marter, who is challenging Underwood in the 14th Congressional District in 2020, plans to deliver that message when he takes part in an anti-impeachment rally outside the offices of Democratic congressional leaders Saturday morning in West Chicago. The demonstration is sponsored by the Will County Republican Committee.

“The average person is busy working hard trying to pay bills that Underwood and Democrats keep raising on us,” said Marter, who is part of a GOP primary field that includes Sens. Sue Rezin (R-Morris) and Jim Oberweis (R-Sugar Grove). “Instead of doing the work of the people, we see shams like this. People need to know that someone will go to Washington and put some sanity back into the place.”

Marter argues that Trump already has things on the right path with record gains to the stock market and the lowest unemployment rate in years to go along with the highest real median household income increases.

“The founders said their biggest fear was that impeachment would be used for partisan politics and Democrats have done just that,” Marter said. “We have to put this country back on a path where it’s not just partisan games. The best way to end all this is to send more Republicans to congress from places like the 14th District, where Lauren Underwood is not working for the people.”
