Ives Releases New Video: A Legacy of Service

Issued the following announcement on Nov. 8.

Jeanne Ives, Republican Candidate for Congress (IL-06), released a digital video today in honor of Veterans Day. In the video, Ives shares the story of her family’s military service - from her grandfather’s heroism in World War I to her own sons, who have chosen to serve in recent years.

“On Veterans Day, we are reminded of the millions of Americans who have put their lives on the line to protect and defend our freedom,” said Ives.

“Today. I am proud to honor the founding values of America, honor the service of our veterans from every war, and to work with service providers that effectively and efficiently help repay the enormous debts we owe these brave Americans.”

Every year on November 11, America celebrates its Veterans.

And every year on November 11, I wear this jacket.

This is the jacket that my grandfather wore during World War I.

He was an American soldier who fought against the Germans.

Because he understood German, he actually had to go across No-Man’s Land at night, listen in on enemy lines and cross back over.

Twice he was strafed. And he also suffered from mustard gas attacks.

But my grandfather was an American hero to me.

He had seven sons. And all of them, including my father, served.

My father served in World War II and in Korea.

And then the tradition continued.

I served my country, as well. I went to West Point.

My husband Paul served. He went to West Point.

Our son, Nick, who we’re proud of, went to West Point.

And now he’s a Navy Pilot.

Our son Matt also is a former Army Ranger.

We’re proud of everybody - in all families - that offered up their sons and their daughters to service in the country.

So this year - and all years, on November 11, we say, ‘Thank you’ to our veterans for their service.
