2. Closed Session

Mrs. Stuefen moved and Mrs. Trautmann seconded to enter into closed session for the purposes of:

A. The appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the public body or legal counsel for the public body (5 ILCS 120/2(c)(1))

B. Litigation, when an action against, affecting or on behalf of the particular public body has been filed and is pending before a court or administrative tribunal, or when the public body finds that an action is probable or imminent, in which case the basis for the finding shall be recorded and entered into the minutes of the closed meeting (5 ILCS 120/2(c)(11))

C. The setting of a price for sale or lease of property owned by the public body (5 ILCS 120/2(c)(6))

D. The purchase or lease of real property for the use of the public body, including meetings held for the purpose of discussing whether a particular parcel should be acquired (5 ILCS 120/2(c)(5))

Motion declared carried and the Board entered into closed session at 6:00 p.m.

The Board returned to open session at 6:58 p.m.

4. Public Comments

A. The Board will receive public comments for up to three minutes concerning items on this agenda, as well as communication, petitions, reports from citizens or representatives of other public agencies

5. Reports and Presentations

A. Summer Professional Learning Recap and 2019-2020 Professional Learning Plan (Tammaru)

Mrs. Nikki Tammaru provided an overview of Summer Professional learning. She noted the District Administrative Team traveled to Washington DC for Model Schools. She noted a theme of innovation. She noted feedback from the participants.

She highlighted teacher accomplishments including Jen Leban and Ben Hartman. She disused Literacy development and noted the gradebook pilot program happening for the 2019-2020 school year.

Mrs. Tammaru discussed Mr. Dave Beedy's work in STEM with the K-5 Science Curriculum Development team as well as Ariana Leonard's work with Language Acquisition curriculum development.

She noted Summer Research and Program Analysis training as well as D205 University Courses "Working the Workshop".

Mrs. Tammaru then discussed the Professional Learning Plan for First Team 2019-2020. She noted the focus of the meetings:

L&T Priority 1= Creating a shared Understanding

L&T Priority 3= Support instructional strategies aligned to rigor and the 6Cs: Culture, Deep Learning, PLCs, Supervision of Instruction

She provided information about the Professional Learning Plan For Teachers 2019-2020 noting a NIU Reading Cohort 2019-2020 and Learning Strands.

Mrs. Lemke provided some information about the data warehouse. She noted the accessibility of data and tracking interventions with the system.

The Board asked about surveying and collecting data. Mrs. Tammaru noted the variety of data collection that goes into evaluating success.

The Board emphasized collection of student and teacher data.

B. Tentative Budget FY20 Presentation (Whelton)

Mr. Chris Whelton presented the Tentative FY20 budget. He highlighted the changes in certified staff over time, administrative costs, furniture purchasing, and previous year comparisons.

6. Superintendent's Agenda - Consent Agenda

A. Personnel Report

Recommendation: That the Board approve the Personnel Report.

Motion: That the Board of Education approve the consent agenda which includes: A. Personnel Report; B. Acceptance and Posting of FY20 Tentative Budget

Motion by Karen Stuefen, second by James E Collins.

B. Acceptance and Posting of FY20 Tentative Budget

Recommendation: That the Board of Education: Adopt the Elmhurst Community Unit School District 205 Tentative Budget for the 2019-2020 fiscal year. Authorize the administration to place the budget on file for public display for a period not less than 30 days prior to September 24, 2019. Direct the administration to publish a Notice of Public Hearing on the 2019-2020 budget to be held on September 24, 2019 at 7:00 p.m.

Motion: That the Board of Education approve the consent agenda which includes: A. Personnel Report; B. Acceptance and Posting of FY20 Tentative Budget

Mrs. Bev Redmond noted a tweet from Sheeleen Delockery, Principal at Emerson, highlighting the Kindergarten PTA play date.
