Wood Dale Police Department issued the following announcement on Sept. 26.
On September 26, Wood Dale Police Chief Greg Vesta was sworn in as the President of the DuPage County Chiefs of Police Association. Chief Vesta was elected to this position by DuPage County’s top law enforcement executives, and has been an active member of this organization during his time serving on various committees and the executive board during his tenure.
The DuPage County Chiefs of Police Association (DPCCPA), organized on March 21, 1963, is the largest county police chiefs association in Illinois and one of the largest and most active in the United States. It is comprised of more than 115 of the county's top law enforcement executives, retired police executives and private sector partners. The DPCCPA serves city and county police departments, as well as federal and state law enforcement agencies, college and university police, as well as private business and security firms. It has members representing every region of the county.
The Association was originally organized to promote legislation that would enhance public security by providing superior police protection for the residents of DuPage County and its many visitors. Today, with the same ultimate goal, its role has expanded to provide better communication, education, and training not only for the county's various police and security agencies, but also sponsors and opens several events to agencies statewide. The Association maintains a strong presence in Springfield, regularly testifies on legislative issues, and members are frequently recognized by legislative leaders to provide insight into public safety issues and problems facing the criminal justice system. DPCCPA facilitates the dissemination of information, provides continuing police training, and promotes a better understanding of the police profession in general.
The DuPage County Chiefs of Police Association has been involved in a number of philanthropic endeavors by generously supporting the Illinois Special Olympics Torch Run with time and monetary contributions, the establishment of a survivor's fund for police officers killed in the line of duty and an annual scholarship for college students.
Through conferences, seminars, and special training courses, the DuPage County Chiefs of Police Association ensures the highest degree of preparedness and responsiveness among the state's many agencies and officers. The Association provides a forum for sharing information on the latest crime-fighting strategies, tools and techniques. By enhancing communications between agencies at all levels, the Association fosters the highest degree of police professionalism and competence.
