ILLINOIS STATE HOUSE DISTRICT 56: Mussman Appointed to Property Tax Relief Task Force

56

Illinois State House District 56 issued the following announcement on Aug. 6

In recognition of her work as a champion of property tax relief, state Rep. Michelle Mussman, D-Schaumburg, was appointed to the Illinois Property Tax Relief Task Force on Friday.

“Constantly rising property taxes are too much of a burden on homeowners in my community and across Illinois,” Mussman said. “Here is an opportunity to look for ways to reduce the property tax burden on families and offer real property tax relief while protecting education, public safety, and other critical resources that are important to Illinoisans.”

Mussman has been a consistent champion for reducing the burden of property taxes, having previously backed measures to institute a statewide property tax freeze, to require a referendum from voters for governments to increase property taxes, and to increase exemptions for seniors, veterans, and all other homeowners. This year, Mussman supported Senate Bill 39, to create a property tax relief rebate for homeowners, and sponsored Senate Bill 1932, which created the Property Tax Relief Task Force. The task force will identify specific policy changes, with recommendations for necessary legislative and administrative changes, which create short- and long-term property tax relief for homeowners.

“Reducing the burden of property taxes is a key priority of mine and as a member of the Property Tax Relief Task Force, I look forward to advocating for the real relief and reforms Illinois families deserve,” Mussman said. “I’m glad that my colleagues in the General Assembly, as well as Governor Pritzker, have recognized that building a stronger Illinois means we must have fairer taxes for the middle class and direct property tax relief for middle-class homeowners.”

Mussman represents the 56th District, which contains portions of Schaumburg, Hoffman Estates, Elk Grove Village, Hanover Park, Roselle, Rolling Meadows and Palatine.
