Newly announced Republican candidate for the 6th Congressional District Jeanne Ives joined members of the Wheaton Lion’s Club Tuesday for the group’s weekly lunch gathering. Ives, who served six years as state representative of the 42nd District and narrowly lost out to then-Gov. Bruce Rauner in a gubernatorial Republican primary in 2018, spent time with roughly 50 members from the organization that raises money to assist those with visual and auditory disabilities.
Ives also met with Elmhurst Cigar Shop owner Shaun Thompson and some of his customers for a spirited conversation on the direction of the state and politics in general. Thompson is also a real estate broker and host of AM-560’s Liberty Hour on Sunday nights.
Ives is poised to take on first-term U.S. Rep. Sean Casten (D-Downers Grove), who she has stressed is too closely aligned with the liberal wing of the Democratic Party. In announcing her run, Ives stated that we can ill-afford to allow any more of the bad policies that are crippling Illinois to take hold on the national stage.

“Democrats have destroyed Illinois,” Ives told the DuPage Policy Journal. “We can’t have them destroy the country the same way. We’ll be less free, our children will be less free and more burdened by government programs they have to fund. Where does that leave our kids, where does that leave us 10 years down the road?”
