Glen Ellyn Park District issued the following announcement on July 24.

Glen Ellyn Park District will be applying for a State of Illinois Open Space Land Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) grant regarding proposed improvements to Newton Park for 2020. The District had previously identified existing assets within the park that are due to be replaced and/or renovated in the next two years because of age and life expectancy. Those assets include the playground and skate park components. If successful in obtaining additional funding, the scope of the project would be increased, and added improvements could be implemented.

An open house for the public will be held on Wednesday, July 31 at Newton Park underneath the picnic shelter from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. at which time, preliminary information regarding the proposed improvements will be available.

OSLAD grants will be awarded in the spring of 2020. If Newton Park is awarded, construction could start in 2020. Completion would be at most 18 months after grant award – but the intent would be to finish the project as quickly as possible.
