Former state school employee Brown Townsend paid in $9K to teachers' pension fund, could collect $547K in retirement

Former state school employee Nancy Brown Townsend, who retired in April 2017, saved $8,831 toward a pension over 7 years working for public schools, Teachers' Retirement System of the State of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Brown Townsend would collect as much as $546,955, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes DuPage Policy Journal.

The projection assumes Brown Townsend received $11,496 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 1 years of retirement, Brown Townsend will have already received $11,496 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the teachers' pension fund.
