The price of local government in 2017: Village of Carol Stream

The Village of Carol Stream budget was $57.24 million for its 2017 fiscal year, or $5,501 per household.

That's an increase of 10.3 percent from 2016, when the village spent $51.89 million, or $4,987 per household.

Carol Stream has 10,405 households and a population of 39,711.

Since 2001, the Village of Carol Stream budget has grown by 17.5 percent, from $48.72 million. The village population has fallen 1.8 percent over the same period, from 40,438.

Salaries accounted for 24.5 percent of village spending in 2017. Carol Stream property taxpayers paid $14.02 million for 164 full-time employees and 21 part-time employees.

In 2001, the village had 148 full-time employees and 37 part-time employees, and spent $11.59 million.
