Illinois Sen. Jim Oberweis (R-Sugar Grove) claims that the large number of people attending a recent pro-life rally at the state capitol in Springfield tells you everything you need to know about where most people stand on the issue of abortion.

“I believe that the size of the turnout shows how strongly people feel about these two issues,” Oberweis said in a statement that also touched upon the recent passage of a proposal to repeal the Illinois’ parental notification law that stipulated a parent or guardian must be notified before a minor could undergo an abortion procedure.

“One can argue about early abortion if you do not believe a fetus is a human being,” Oberweis added. “But many Democrats have gone nuts by overreaching with these two proposals.”

Local Bishop Thomas John Paprocki was one of the speakers who addressed an overflow crowd that forced authorities to cut off traffic to the Capitol Building.

“The abortion debate boils down to the Fifth Commandment: Thou shalt not kill,” he said.

Paprocki later added that he’s come to believe the Democratic Party is now “the party of abortion,” with newly elected Gov. J.B. Pritzker having vowed “to make Illinois the most pro-abortion state in this country.”
