The new budget proposed by the City of Elmhurst calls for $168,215,835 in expenditures in fiscal year 2019, which is 0.9 percent less than what this year’s estimated budget provides.
Officials have until Dec. 31 to approve a budget.
The city proposes spending $9,795,300 on municipal worker pensions, which is 5.8 percent of the total budget. The pension amount reflects taxpayer contributions to current police and fire employees, as well as other municipal employees.
A total of $20,163,000, or 12 percent of total city expenditures, would go to police protection, while fire services represent 6.5 percent of the 2019 budget, or $10,879,900. Contributions to the Illinois Municipal Retirement fund total $782,000, or 0.6 percent.
